Coruna Spain. This is a gem of a city. At the northwest corner of Spain. It has historic roots.
General Moore evacuated the English Forces after the Battle of Elvina during the Napoleonic Peninsula war. In 1809 he evacuated the 30,000 strong English army out of Spain at Coruna. The French under Soult and Ney were poised to utterly defeat the English had it not been the retreat and evacuation of the English Army by the Royal Navy transports. Moore was heavily criticised for his actions but it probably saved the British Army to fight another day.
The city today is a Spanish gem. One of the most beautiful cities in Spain that I have ever seen. It is only a short one hour drive north of Santiago. Well worth the trip to explore.
