Advent

Hey, today, 27 November, is the first Sunday of Advent. Advent, or the awakening of us to the good news of the coming day of the birth of Jesus Christ…our savior.

Advent is a period of spiritual preparation in which many Christians make themselves ready for the coming, or birth of the Lord, Jesus Christ. Celebrating Advent typically involves a season of prayer, fasting, and repentance, followed by anticipation, hope, and joy.

Catholics, of which I am, celebrate a month of preparation. It is also know as the start of the church year. It is a time of anticipation and joy. In the secular sense, as a young lad, I also viewed Advent as an exciting time in anticipation for the coming of Santa Clause on Christmas morning. Of course, living across the road from a Catholic church, my parents made me go to church every morning before school during the Advent season. Looking back, while I dreaded that routine, I must say that I am glad that I did it for the many years of my youth.

For those who do not believe in Jesus Christ or who are not believers in Christianity at all, I would  like to point out that whatever your beliefs are, Christianity brought much to western and eastern culture in literature, architecture, music and visual art:

In this crazy world we live in, it is nice to enjoy all that Christianity has given us but to also recognize all that the Christian faith and beliefs have contributed to our culture and society.

With your faith in check all worry and anxiety fades away.

Remember: If I am wrong about all of this I have nothing to lose but if you are wrong in your belief that Jesus Christ doesn’t exists or your denial of Christ as the savior then you have everything to lose.

Happy Advent season.

What We Need Now? Another Krakatoa!

Definitely has a smile on his face. COP 27 just agreed to set up a climate fund to provide developing countries compensation for the sins of western democracies. That is us by the way.

Most third world dictators are ensuring their representatives stop by Switzerland on their way home to update, upgrade or unravel their Swiss bank accounts. Yay UN. Thanks a bunch.

Some delegates – some in their sleep – praised the last minute UN breakthrough on setting up the fund as climate justice, for its aim in helping vulnerable countries cope with storms, floods and other disasters being fueled by rich nations’ historic carbon emissions. Take that Canada.

So. There you have it. That car you drive? Its responsible for the latest typhoon off of Indonesia. Or Sri Lankan food poverty. Of course there is no mention of all of those African dictators who rape their countries of all of their natural resources and undermine their GDP at the expense and livelihood of their citizens well being and security. Can’t do that. This is the altruistic UN don’t ya know.Sri Lankan Protesters Storm Presidential Palace amid Economic Turmoil ...

SRI Lankan Street Party 2022. Coming to a Canada near you if our PM has his way.

BTW Canada sent 335 delegates to COP 27 held in the utmost luxury at an Egyptian resort on the Red Sea. Shame el Shalacking I believe the resort is called.

Oh, and the anthem at this years COP?

And Trudeau? He was off to Bali with Canada’s Valley Girl (Joli) for the G20 summit. What can be said of that illustrious gathering?

KRAKATOA, HEAR MY PRAYERS

Actual real sound from an eye witness who survived the 1883 explosion and lived to post it up on You Tube. Amazing.

Climate Change And Saving The Planet

Here in Canada we now have a climate emergency. Yup, it is the new paradigm brought to you by the UN. The whole western world has embraced this concept.

Interesting, about 6 months ago a poll was done asking Canadians about their priorities given an election. The economy hit number one with climate change down at about 14. This was unsatisfactory so the Canadian press, in collusion with the Liberal Party of Canada, began to change things in a way to scare Canadians into thinking that the world is g0ing to end in 2030 if we do not something about climate change right now. We have to save the planet. Yes we do but not from the climate…from ourselves.

Can anyone out there consider the pure arrogance of the notion that we can change the climate of the world by reducing CO2 levels by eliminating the use of fossil fuels? This is insane yet the general public has drank the Kool-Aid. Climate Change action is now the number one electoral priority in our country. Group Think on a massive national scale? You bet. All courtesy of the liberal press in this country.

Take the sun out of the equation and see what will happen. Or just obscure it. Our last solar eclipse did just that and our ambient temperature dropped 10 degrees. Climate is just too complex for any one variable, in this case CO2, which happens to be absolutely imperative for all life on earth. The environ-mentals would have you think otherwise.

Did you know that June was the hottest month ever? Now it’s July and July is only half over. It will be August as well, followed by September, October….well you get the picture. I can tell you for sure that 2022 will go down as the hottest year on record. Just like 2020, 2019, 2018 and on an on she went. Why? Because the fat cats at the UN have to keep the apocalyptic narrative going. It is all part of their long term game plan to rule the world at some point in time in the future. This is their stated goal.

Did you know that cats are fatter today then they were in the 1990s – and that climate change is to blame? I always thought it was government largesse or subsidies.. Or that Whacho Cortez believes that to pay for her multi-trillion dollar Green New Deal all the government has to do is print more money through the Treasury. Venezuela anyone…or Germany after WW1. But for all of you environmental hypocrites out there I have this to say:

“Okay, have your way…now. Stop all production of oil and gas…NOW. No more airplanes, no more fancy cars, no more holidays, cruises, excursions…nada. Turn off the gas pipeline that goes into your house. Turn off that stove, washing machine or use nothing but wind and solar and see how far that takes you. Do it now. Get rid of all plastics including all medical appliances, tubing, intravenous bags. Scan equipment, everything. Don’t just talk about it because if you do not you are just one of the millions of hypocrites out there. And all of you that bought fancy homes out in the burbs, miles from your work…well take shitty public transit, that is if it services your neighborhood. If not, well walk to work.”

Enjoy your day.

In deference to our Prime Minister:

Vimy Ridge and the 100 Days

Vimy Ridge:

The Battle of Vimy Ridge was a military engagement fought primarily as part of the Battle of Arras, in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region of France, during the First World War. The main combatants were the Canadian Corps, of four divisions, against three divisions of the German Sixth Army. The battle, which took place from 9 to 12 April 1917, was part of the opening phase of the British-led Battle of Arras, a diversionary attack for the French Nivelle Offensive.

The objective of the Canadian Corps, led by Canadian General Arthur Currie, was to take control of the German-held high ground along an escarpment at the northernmost end of the Arras Offensive. This would ensure that the southern flank could advance without suffering German enfilade fire. Supported by a creeping barrage, the Canadian Corps captured most of the ridge during the first day of the attack. The village of Thélus fell during the second day of the attack, as did the crest of the ridge, once the Canadian Corps overcame a salient against considerable German resistance. The final objective, a fortified knoll located outside the village of Givenchy-en-Gohelle, fell to the Canadian Corps on 12 April. The German forces then retreated to the OppyMéricourt line.

Historians attribute the success of the Canadian Corps in capturing the ridge to a mixture of technical and tactical innovation, meticulous planning, powerful artillery support and extensive training, as well as the failure of the German Sixth Army to properly apply the new German defensive doctrine. The battle was the first occasion when all four divisions of the Canadian Expeditionary Force participated in a battle together and it was made a symbol of Canadian national achievement and sacrifice. A 100-hectare (250-acre) portion of the former battleground serves as a memorial park and site of the Canadian National Vimy Memorial.[5]

100 Days

The code word used by the Canadians for security at this battle was “Llandovery Castle” a Canadian hospital ship carrying both Canadian wounded and Canadian Nursing Sisters. The ship had been torpedoed and sunk in June of 1918.

Again led by General Currie and without using preliminary artillery but using tanks (effective early but out of commission later), the Canadians moved forward at 4:20 am on August 8, 1918. By 1:15 pm the Canadians had more than achieved their objectives. The German lines had been breached and the Canadians had pressed 13 kilometres into German held territory. The cost was high, with almost 4000 Canadians killed or wounded but the results were impressive; roughly 27,000 German casualties and approximately 5,000 taken prisoner. The “Flanders deception” had worked flawlessly. A German POW had expressed amazement that the Canadians had been his foe, as he was told by the high command that all the Canadians had been moved to Belgium. During the next 2 days, the Germans had been pushed back an additional 24 kilometres, 4 German divisions were “on the run” and 10,000 more prisoners taken by the Canadian forces. This victory had liberated 25 French towns and villages and put a stop to the German efforts to split the British and French armies. The German Spring Offensive had been stopped and the tide of the war reversed.

The result of this Canadian action is best verbalized by Germany’s Erich von Ludendorff, the general quartermaster of the German army, referred to this battle as the black day of the German army.

The Kaiser ordered an initiation of Peace negotiations. Over the next few months and by the 09th November 1918, the Canadian Corp with the help of the Australian Corp advanced all the way to Mons. On the 11th November it was all over. By my reckoning the Canadian Corp and the Australian / New Zealand Corp won the First World War. Unfortunately they were all part of the British Army so they never received the recognition they deserved. The Brits took all the glory………………..never again.

One of many reviews of Monk’s Orchard:

“I have just finished reading this novel by John Morrison. Like his other books, this was an impressive and enjoyable read.In this book, the author chooses a theme so different from his first novel. This alone is impressive ;that he can range to themes so vastly different. His character development is again strong and the great amount of historical research that he has done is evident. Using a narrator to span the generations is an interesting and effective literary device. Let us hope that Mr.Morrison has more equally interesting novels in store for us.”

Lest We Forget: Battle Of The Atlantic

Battle of the Atlantic

The Battle of the Atlantic was Canada’s longest military engagement of the Second World War, lasting from September 1939 to May 1945. This battle was bravely fought by the men and women of the Canadian Merchant Navy, the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal Canadian Air Force. More than 4,600 courageous service men and women lost their lives at sea.

Dangerous Duty in the North Atlantic | Naval History ...

Royal Navy too……………

The name “Battle of the Atlantic” was coined by Winston Churchill in February 1941.[9] It has been called the “longest, largest and most complex” naval battle in history.[10] The campaign started immediately after the European war began, during the so-called “Phoney War“, and lasted six years, until the German Surrender in May 1945. It involved thousands of ships in more than 100 convoy battles and perhaps 1,000 single-ship encounters, in a theatre covering millions of square miles of ocean. The situation changed constantly, with one side or the other gaining advantage, as participating countries surrendered, joined and even changed sides in the war, and as new weapons, tactics, counter-measures and equipment were developed by both sides. The Allies gradually gained the upper hand, overcoming German surface raiders by the end of 1942 and defeating the U-boats by mid-1943, though losses due to U-boats continued until war’s end.

The Germans failed to stop the flow of strategic supplies to Britain. This failure resulted in the build-up of troops and supplies needed for the D-Day landings. The defeat of the U-boat was a necessary precursor for accumulation of Allied troops and supplies to ensure Germany’s defeat.

Victory was achieved at a huge cost: between 1939 and 1945, 3,500 Allied merchant ships (totalling 14.5 million gross tons) and 175 Allied warships were sunk and some 72,200 Allied naval and merchant seamen lost their lives.[1] The Germans lost 783 U-boats and approximately 30,000 sailors killed, three-quarters of Germany’s 40,000-man U-boat fleet.[2]
